I can’t believe how time just flies by… It was just a few weeks ago snow was on the ground and we were answering inquiry after inquiry getting our calendars filled for upcoming hair and makeup trials and weddings. Our very first bride to be comes to us from the lovely town of Painted Post, NY. Absolutely a stunning natural beauty to begin with, Leslie is our traditional bride- to- be who wanted a fresh, yet timeless look that was on the traditional side. What I absolutely loved about Leslie’s natural beauty is her flawless, fair skin. Fair skin is the ”NEW TAN” in my opinion. You don’t have to have sun-kissed skin to look fabulous. To get Leslie’s fresh, timeless and traditional look I used the following cosmetic products:

EYES:   Base color: MAC Painterly (eye paint that extends the life of eyeshadow), MAC Dazzlelight and MAC Vanilla on lid and brow bone, MAC Soba and MAC Swiss Chocolate in the crease using a small sized shovel brush for placement of eyeshadow and a blending brush to blend away any lines of demarkation. I also used a pencil brush to lightly dust Soba and Swiss Chocolate on the bottom lash line to create a smoky, sultry look instead of using a harsh eye liner which could minimize the shape of Leslie’s eyes. Since we were going for a fresh and bright look it was important to keep Leslie’s eyes open and really blue. On the top of the lashline I used the MAC Blacktrack cream liner with a tightly woven small angle brush. Using earth tone and natural colors for eyeshadows really complimented Leslie’s blue eyes making them look strikingly blue. One of my most favorite parts to making the eyes POP is using an eye lash curler. If you don’t use one already, start using one and get yourself in the habit of doing so. Using an eyelash curler can take years off your eyes making them look like you’ve just had plastic surgery. Since Leslie was blessed with long, pretty lashes I really wanted them to stand up and look fanned out without having to rely on faux lashes. I crimped her lashes in 2 different places making them look like the NIKE SWISH (not an L shape) I also hit the lashes with 3 coats of mascara to add body. My newest favorite in mascaras is Cover Girl’s eyelights (waterproof by the way..) This mascara is very inexpensive, longerwearing, smudgeproof, clump proof, and available in different colors to enhance each person’s own natural eye color. The light reflecting particles in the mascara also add that extra bit of sparkle and twinkle to the eyes. You can find this mascara at your local Wally World (Wal-Mart) for only $ 7.97. Cover Girl Eye Brightening Waterproof Black Ruby 725 Exact Eyelights Mascara .24 Fl OzFACE: MAC Pinch O’ Peach on the apples of the cheeks with MAC Trace Gold for warmth. We also airbrushed Leslie’s face using a water-based liquid foundation, in addition to, the MAC Medium Blot Powder to set the foundation. A little bit of Silver Dusk (Shimmery dusting powder applied in small amounts) on the upper cheek bone for highlight. LIPS: MAC lip pencil in Half Red, MAC lipstick in Sweetie, MAC lustreglass in Palatial and MAC lipglass in Pink Poodle (little dab to mix with Palatial to intensify color). And there you go you have the “Leslie Look.”

Since I’m no hair expert I honestly can’t tell you what Danielle did with Leslie’s hair except that it looked absolutely beautiful and timeless. Danielle is my lead hair stylist who has been with me for the past 4 1/2 years and has done numerous weddings with me. She is by far one of the most talented hair stylists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

On a side note: We did have one minor issue with the foundation I used on Leslie later that day. Only after a couple of hours of wear it started to break down quickly making the beautiful Leslie a little nervous. Leslie emailed me a fews days later telling me what had happend. To her suprise it was not a big deal at all as I told her that we can simply change the foundation from a waterbase to silicone base foundation. She was very happy to know this and still felt trust and the utmost confidence in us.  Now you know why we have Trial Makeup and Hair sessions. You never know what could happen on the most important day of your life. Plus, you really want to feel and look your very best without worrying what your artist or stylist is going to make you look like. In addition, a true professional should never agree to skipping a hair and makeup trial just because a client feels that a trial run is not necessary. I’m very firm with my opinion when it comes to a trial run for makeup and hair with all my clients. If I get a bride that does not want a trial done before her wedding date I simply decline the client. I hope you enjoyed learning, listening, and growing with me. xoxo, Kris K.

One Response to 2010 Wedding Season is already here!

  1. Nice post.

    I say,

Using a good hair salon is key to great hair care. But how do you select the right hair salon from the many choices available?
You can do to guarantee that you always receive the best hair cuts, latest professional techniques and stellar service is to choose the right hair salon. Granted, that is easier said than done. With hair salons on practically every street corner, narrowing down your options to find the right salon can be confusing.
